St. Patrick's Day

So Its St. Patrick's day, and time to put your green outfit on, and plan who you are going with to the pub crawl. Every year this day comes and just about EVERYONE celebrates it in some way. From wearing their green, or another reason they can get hammered at the local bar, or to celebrate a life of a great man of God. But what is St. Patrick's Day really all about? And was there really a Saint Patrick?
Patrick was actually from Britain, kidnapped by raiders when he was a young boy and taken to Ireland. During this time, he worked as a Sheppard-(remind you of anyone) and used this time to grow a very close relationship with God. He wanted to share his faith with the Irish, but after going back to Britain it would be over 15years before he made it back to Ireland. When He finally had made it, he already knew the culture and the people. He would use things very familiar with the Irish to explain the One True God. Like he added a Sun to the cross because the sun was a very powerful thing to the Irish, and this is where you will see the Celtic Cross. The famous 3 leaf clover, was used to explain the Trinity, each leaf -God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. St. Patrick was a missionary sent to Ireland by God to reach a nation for his kingdom.
So this St. Patrick's Day, past all the fun of pinching people, and talking about lepercons, and seeing everything green, lets remember what this day is really about - A man that listened to God and changed the world. And don't ever put it past God to call your name, to do something great.

God Bless
Pastor Russell
